Systems Solutions develops software to increase pharmacy revenue Patient diagnostic functionality in QicSCRIPT® may help to increase pharmacy revenue 12 June 2006, Dublin, Ireland – Systems Solutions has today announced the arrival of patient diagnostic functionality in QicSCRIPT, its flagship Patient Medication Record (PMR) system, to help pharmacists deliver more pharmacy services and generate more revenue for their businesses. QicSCRIPT’s latest functionality allows pharmacists to record diagnostic tests against patients’ individual PMRs, creating a permanent record of each service provided. In this way, pharmacists can offer regular health check services, monitoring conditions such as blood pressure, cholesterol, heart conditions, and obesity etc. By recording the results of these tests over a period of time, pharmacists can measure improvement or otherwise with particular treatments, enabling them to take fast corrective action if required. David Raethorne, Systems Solutions’ founding technical director, says, “We’ve been extremely busy over the last few months developing functionality in QicSCRIPT that will enable pharmacists to deliver more services both under and separate to the new pharmacy contract. From talking to a number of pharmacists, it is becoming increasingly clear that some are struggling to make ends meet under the new pharmacy contract. With our latest patient diagnostic software, pharmacists can offer fee-paying customised health checks to patients, helping them to deliver more services and generate more money for their businesses. By supplying additional health check services, pharmacists will also succeed in attracting loyal customers, which will bring repeat business back to their pharmacy in the future”. To make recording of patient diagnostics as easy as possible, QicSCRIPT can be pre-populated with values that constitute normal units of measurement for each test. When the pharmacist conducts a health check with a patient, s/he simply enters the actual measurement values of the particular test into QicSCRIPT. The software then automatically compares and contrasts these actual values against the pre-set parameters to deduce whether the patient is either within or outside the normal range. QicSCRIPT’s latest module is also designed to allow pharmacists to tailor these health checks into different service packages, providing patients with even more choice. For example, the pharmacy could offer a health check, which might include only one particular diagnostic test (e.g. blood pressure or cholesterol). Alternatively, they may wish to offer a group diagnostic test service, which might include two or more tests, charged at a higher fee. “The new contract requires pharmacists to become more service-driven”, explains David Raethorne. “As a company, we want to support pharmacists any way we can by developing the tools they need to record services like patient diagnostics, interventions and MURs as easy and efficiently as possible”, he concludes. With the appointment scheduling software that Systems Solutions launched last month and the automatic form-filling functionality inherent in QicSCRIPT, pharmacists can schedule health check appointments and reminders for patients, as well as record information effortlessly during consultation with the patient. It is expected that patient diagnostic software may help to support supplementary prescribing by pharmacists in the near future.
