Question: How do I check which version of Helix Health Software I am running?
Answer: In order to check which version of the Software you’re running you’ll need to access the System. Once you’re on the main menu screen the version number you are running will be displayed on the bottom left hand side.
An alternate way of checking is to select enquiries/about this system and the details are displayed on the top of the pop up screen.
Question: How do I maximise my Helix Health Software Screen when it is displayed as a small window on my PC Desktop screen?
Answer: Sometimes when you double click your Helix Health Desktop icon it opens in a smaller version displayed on your desktop. To maximise the display to full screen view – hold down the Alt key and enter.
Question: How do I run the Drug Information CD? What do I do if it fails?
Answer: To run the Drug Information upgrades please follow the following steps:
- Insert CD Rom in Cd drive.
- Go to the Administration Menu
- Select Update Drug Information from menu.
- After confirming, you do want to run update the system requests the location of update files. By default it will select D: (this is the CD Drive), so press enter.
This process can take up to five minutes to complete.
IF IT FAILS
Sometimes the Drug Information CD may not be read correctly, in this case please follow the following steps:
- Insert the CD Rom in Cd drive.
- Exit the your Helix Health software.
- Double click on your “my computer” icon on the desktop.
- Left click on CD drive “D”.
- When the CD opens - click on Edit and then Copy
- Double left click on the “C” Drive
- Double left click on the Druginfo folder then left click on Edit and hit Paste.
Question. What do I do when I get the error: "cannot find working folder"?
Answer: If you receive the error unable to find working folder here is what you need to do:
- Find the icon on your desktop that says My network places, or Network Neighbourhood.
- Right click on the icon.
- You will be presented with a menu - left click on Map Network Drive option.
- Choose the Drive “G:” (using the down arrow or browse).
- If you click on the down arrow in the field (textbox) below called Folder or Path a list should appear.
- Choose the top option listed – don’t worry if there’s only one option. If you receive an error though select the next option on the drop down list.
- Make sure that the check box is ticked for Reconnect at Logon
- And then click on OK.
You should be able to access your Helix Health Software then.
Question: How do I restore the QicScript / QicPoS icons to my desktop
Answer:
- Double click on My Computer, double click on the (c:) drive.
- Double click on the yellow Qic folder, Double click on the setup icon.
- Click ok when you see the Qic Setup box appear on screen, the missing icons will then reappear on the desktop. You may need to restart your pc after doing the above.
Question: How do I fix runtime error 201 in QicScript in Win2000 / XP?
Answer:
- Open QicScript and right click on the grey bar on the top of the screen.
- On the pop-up menu that opens left click on properties. Left click on the Font tag and select 16x12 as the font siz
- Left click the layout tab and in the window size box change the width to 80. Left click the options tab and on the display options box click full screen. The apply properties dialog box will now open. Click ‘save properties for future windows with same title’.
- Exit out of QicScript completely.
- Locate your QicScript icon on your desktop and right click on it. On the pop-up menu that opens left click on properties. On the QicScript properties screen left click on the screen tab. On the usage box click ‘full screen’ and click apply. Open QicScript and it should open correctly in full screen. QicPOS should automatically open in full screen mode as well.

Question: What do I do if I get an error stating “too many file handles open”?
Answer:
- Make sure there is only one copy of QicScript open first of all, and then close QicScript. If your operating system is windows 98 please do the following:
- Go to start, run, type in command and press enter, you should see c:\>, if not type cd. And press enter until you are back to c:\> type edit config.sys, at the bottom of the screen there is a line that reads files = 200.
- If the number is different, change it to 200. Press alt + f, then alt + x to get back to previous dos screen. Type exit and press enter to get back to windows desktop. Open Qic Script, if the error still appears you need to do a restart of machine to resolve.
- If your operating system is windows 2000/XP/NT. Please do the following:
- At the c:\> prompt, type cd winnt and press enter. Then type cd system32 and press enter. Then type edit config.nt and press enter. Then follow the same procedure as above for checking the line files=200 and so on.
Question: What do I do if QicScript freezes and my pc won’t respond?
Answer:
- Try pressing the ‘esc’ key, if no response, press the Ctrl +Alt + Delete keys together, you should then see a close program window.
- Select Qic Script from the list and click end task. Click end task a second time if the same window reappears. If still no response, click Ctrl +Alt + Delete twice to reboot.
- If there is still no response, hold in the power button on the pc for 5 seconds until the screen goes blank. Power on the pc and check that you can access QicScript. If is advisable to do a rebuild of all files at end of day.

Question: What do I do if I get data errors, e.g. 10070, in QicScript?
Answer:
- Rebuild all files overnight. If error persists, rebuild the specific files, e.g if error appears while dispensing, rebuild the patient file and script file. If error persists, next step is to merge/compress the script files.
- Select administration, utility procedures, merge/compress script file. You need to merge script.dat and any other script files, i.e., script.1, script.2, etc.

Question: What do I do if I get error 215 when transmitting an order?
Answer:
- Rebuild the order file, the supplier file and user file and then try resending order.
- If error persists, rebuild all files and if error still persists, you need to recreate the order file. It is best to get a systems solution CSE to talk you through this process.
Question: How do I change the teleorder (DOE) details for a supplier?
Answer:
- You can change the teleorder details by selecting the Admin option,
- Then edit files,
- Then miscellaneous.
- Then the configuration file,
- Select the supplier File.
- Then Press enter on the supplier file on list, e.g. Uniphar. Select option 10, which is ordering details. This option order electronically should be set to yes.
- Confirm correct EDI phone no, supplier id and password with the supplier and change, if necessary. Change EDI speed to 9600 or leave this option as Default. Send a test order and confirm with supplier that they have received it.
Question: Receipt will not print?
Answer: Go to administration, select edit files, miscellaneous, configuration file, and workstation details. Change option 6 from lpt 0 to lpt 2. Press enter and enter again to save information.
Question: Add GMS code to drug?
Answer: Go to administration, select edit files, then drug files and drug file again. Press spacebar to search for drug. When relevant drug is selected press enter to modify record. Type 19 to change or enter new GMS code. When code is entered correctly press enter and enter again to save new code.
Question: How do I change the DPS Limit?
Answer: Go to administration, select edit files, then miscellaneous, then configuration file and select additional pricing. Change option 1 to old limit and change option 2 to new limit. At option 3 enter month and year change is effective from.
Question: How do I change the level at which Drug Interactions will be notified to user?
Answer: Go to administration, select edit files then miscellaneous, select configuration file and go to interaction options. Change option 7 to required levels. Press enter and enter again to save this change.
Question: How do I do a Merge\Compress and why should I need to?
Answer:
- To do a successful Merge\ Compress make sure QicScript is only open on one machine. Take a complete backup of the QIC folder.
- Go to Administration, Utility procedures, Merge\Compress Script Files.
- The cursor should be blinking beside option 1. As below:
Type the following SCRIPT.DAT and press enter; the line will change to something similar to C:\QIC\DATA6\SCRIPT.DAT as below:
On line 2, type SCRIPT.1 and press enter, you will get either C:\QIC\DATA6\SCRIPT.1 or a message will appear on the bottom of the screen stating: This File Does Not Exist <- Continue as below:
Press the <- key and delete that line. Now press enter through all the other lines until you get to 10. Here you will be asked: "Do you want to merge these file now [N]" if you do press Y then the system will ask you if you have done a backup if yes again press Y the Merge \ Compress will begin. N.B. Do Not Attempt to Stop this Process.
15. How to do a rebuild of files
To rebuild files the most important thing to remember is that nobody else is using the system – that means all other QicScript and QicPoS systems must be closed Now go to Administration menu choose rebuild damaged files and then choose all files. The System will present you with a warning please read this carefully. If you still want to continue press [y] and your files will be rebuilt. The time for this process varies depending on the number of histories and patients on your system; it can take up to one and a half hours.
Question: Setting up labels, things to check if labels and receipts won’t print
Answer:
- If your label printer won’t print check the following options.
- Is it turned on?
- That both cables at the back of the printer are connected securely.
- Go to Administration; edit files, miscellaneous, configuration file and printer details. The label printer is usually set up in option 1; there are two things to consider here. a. The printer type, if using an OKI 590 colour printer then use the Panasonic KXP colour as the type. b. Make sure the LPT port is LPT1 or if you are using an OKI 3320 printer then use the IBM GRAPHICS/EPSON as type.
- Go to Administration; edit files, miscellaneous, configuration file and workstation details. Option 4 here should be set to 1

If your receipts won’t print check no 1 and 2 below.

Question: Things that you can check if your modem is not initialising
Answer:
Check that there is power to modem, check cables from modem. There are three cables, which come from the back of the modem.
- The power lead, this should be connected to a live power source
- The phone line, this should be connected to an analogue phone line (standard)
- The communications lead, this should be connected to the back of the pc.
If all these cables are connected securely and the modem still does not function please contact Helix Health.
Question: What should I check when my pc freezes while dispensing?
Answer: Check that printers are turned on and online. And that all cables are secure in both back of pc and printer. If all good reboot.
Question: What do I do if my receipt or report printers won’t print (Win98)?
Answer: You need to capture the printer port in windows. To do this you need to close QicScript and follow the steps below:
- Click on Start, Settings and Printers.
- Right-Click on the offending printer.
- Left-Click on Properties.
- Left-Click on the Details Tab.
- Select the Capture Printer Port.
- In Device field choose LPT? (Whatever the port it’s connected too find this out in Printer details in QicScript).
- In Path Left-Click on the drop down arrow and choose from the list (If more than one selection go through them one by one).
- Make sure there is a tick in the reconnect at log on.
- Click on OK and then you will be brought to the previous screen.
- Make sure that Print to the following port is set to LPT? \\server\server (or whatever drive it’s on).
- Click on Apply or OK and then close Printer screen and go back to QicSCRIPT and try to print.
