Systems Solutions title sponsor of Pharmacist Awards once again.

March 2006 – Dublin, Ireland – Systems Solutions has today announced that they are the title sponsors for the 2006 Pharmacist Awards for the second year running. The Pharmacist Awards, which were established in 2005, aims to highlight excellence across the pharmacy profession.

These awards are open to all pharmacists working across community, hospital, industrial and academic pharmacy settings. Entries are particularly sought in the following nine categories:

• Excellence in Community Practice Award
• Retail Pharmacist Contribution to the Community Award
• Patient Nominated Award
• Public/Patient Education Award
• Excellence in Hospital Pharmacy Award
• Pharmacist in Industry Award
• Young Pharmacist of the Year Award (entrants under 30 years old.)
• Overall Pharmacist of the Year (which was effortlessly won last year by the charismatic David Lohan, from Lohan’s Pharmacy, Galway).

In addition, a Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented to recognise those pharmacists who have made a significant contribution to pharmacy in Ireland over the past 20 years.

Nick Strong, Systems Solutions’ managing director, says, “We are delighted to be involved in the Pharmacist Awards 2006. After the success of last year’s awards, there was no absolutely doubt about us getting involved this year. As title sponsors to the Pharmacist Awards for the second year running, we are proud to be supporting such an important event in honour of such a vital profession in our healthcare system”.

Last year’s event was attended by over 400 representatives from the pharmacy and healthcare professions and managed to raise €23,630 for the Pharmaceutical Society’s Benevolent Trust Fund.

“Pharmacists are notorious for hiding their light under a bushel. The Pharmacist Awards aim to change this. It is important for a profession as esteemed and valued as pharmacy to be honoured in its own version of the Oscars. Not only do the Pharmacist Awards achieve this, but it also contributes much needed funding to the Benevolent Fund, a fund which has proved to be a vital support to many pharmacists and their families in the past. For this reason, we’d like to invite everybody in pharmacy to vote for the pharmacist that genuinely commands a respect borne out of sheer commitment and passion for what they do”, concludes Nick Strong.

This year’s awards will be adjudicated by 12 pharmacists, who will shortlist a total of 20 pharmacists from the range of entries submitted. Award finalists and winners will be announced at the gala black-tie event will be held this year at the elegant surroundings of the Four Season’s Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin on Saturday, 25th November 2006.
