Pharmacy technician students complete first year singing from the same script

Systems Solutions implements community and hospital pharmacy software into Ireland’s latest pharmacy technician school

15 May, 2006 – Dublin, Ireland - Systems Solutions has announced that it has teamed up with the Institute of Technology Carlow to provide their pharmacy technician students with community and hospital pharmacy software.

The company benevolently supplied the college with its community pharmacy products: QicSCRIPT, its flagship pharmacy dispensing software, and QicPOS, its advanced electronic point of sale (EPOS) system, as well as its hospital pharmacy dispensing software, CliniSCRIPT, in addition to CliniCHEMO, its chemotherapy manufacturing and scheduling software.

IT Carlow is one of only two Institutes of Technology accredited to provide the two-year Higher Certificate in Science: Pharmacy Technician Studies course which it launched in September of 2005. Still in its infancy, the course successfully complements a balanced blend of academic study with valuable work experience, with students participating in a 6-month work placement programme following the first year of their certificate.

David Raethorne, Systems Solutions’ founding technical director, claims, “We are absolutely thrilled to be in a position to implement our software into IT Carlow. With over 400,000 people visiting Irish pharmacies on a daily basis, pharmacy technicians play a key role in the pharmacy community, helping pharmacists to deal with the high demand for their services and advice. “

Keara O’Dea, course director of the Pharmacy Technician Certificate Course in Carlow Institute of Technology says, “The Pharmacy Technician course was shaped around the principle of providing pharmacy technicians with valuable practical experience. As information technology plays such a fundamental role in pharmacy of today, we’ve introduced IT as a central module in our course to provide each of our students with the technical skills they’ll need when they enter the workforce. We are extremely pleased about how they are progressing with Systems Solutions’ software so far”.

Systems Solutions already supplies all schools of pharmacies in Ireland with its leading pharmacy software as part of its overarching strategy to teach budding pharmacists and pharmacy technicians essential IT skills. As David Raethorne claims, “Sixty percent of community pharmacies and 80% of hospital pharmacies in Ireland use our software, therefore, it is inevitable that these students will use our software at some stage in their working careers. By supplying colleges like IT Carlow with our leading edge pharmacy software solutions, we can ensure that the students have the necessary IT skills to help them not only secure jobs, but be absolutely confident doing their jobs from a patient safety and clinical governance point of view”.
