New software functionality makes MURs much simpler and faster Systems Solutions launches MUR and appointment scheduling software in its QicSCRIPT® PMR 28 April 2006, Dublin, Ireland – Systems Solutions Limited has announced the launch of its sophisticated Medicines Use Review (MUR) and appointment scheduling software within QicSCRIPT, its flagship Patient Medication Record (PMR) system. Together with its interventions recording module which was launched last month, this additional functionality will make the delivery of advanced services even easier. Under the new pharmacy contract, pharmacists must conduct 250 MURs a year to access the full amount of funding available to them. QicSCRIPT’s advanced MUR and appointment scheduling software, enables pharmacists to easily identify suitable patients to carry out an MUR and schedule appointments, simply and efficiently. David Raethorne, Systems Solutions’ founding technical director, says, “We are very excited about QicSCRIPT’s latest functionality. Our aim is to empower pharmacists to manage their own time and financial resources as efficiently as possible. At present, pharmacists are very much dependent on targeting patients in-store for MURs. With our new MUR and appointments scheduling software, the pharmacist doesn’t have to wait until the patient walks into their pharmacy; they can proactively identify suitable patients, contact them and sign them up for an MUR consultation during the pharmacy’s quieter times. Enabling pharmacists to fully optimise use of the pharmacy’s time and recoup maximum funding under the new contract." Through the seamless integration of the MUR module and appointments scheduling software, pharmacists can identify the most suitable candidates for MURs based on the type or quantity of medication particular patients are taking, their medical conditions, age or a combination of everything. Once identified, pharmacists can contact these patients and schedule MUR appointments with them for a particular date and time. In addition, the pharmacist can then set up reminders to contact the patient a day or two in advance of the MUR consultation to remind them about their appointment, thereby increasing the chances of the patient actually turning up. According to David Raethorne, “Up to 10 million GP appointments are missed every year costing the NHS in the region of £180 million annually, it seems inevitable that this situation may well be replicated for MUR consultations in pharmacies. Our advanced appointment scheduling software has the ability to reduce the number of missed MUR appointments, thereby, increasing the potential of pharmacists to access the full funding available to them”. Ideal for both independent pharmacies and pharmacy chains, appointments for MUR consultations can be made either locally or centrally at head office. The new MUR module enables the pharmacist to effortlessly record the details of the consultation by automatically filling in key patient information on the MUR form directly from the patient’s PMR. This eliminates the need to re-key patient information, leaving the pharmacist free to concentrate on the consultation itself. At the end of the consultation, the pharmacist simply prints off copies of the MUR form which is then signed by the patient and sent to the GP. In addition, the pharmacist can schedule the next follow-up MUR appointment for the patient to occur sometime in the future.
